WHAT MAKES PRESIDENT BUSH RUN (WITH JERUSALEM)?

Ynet Hebrew Edition, December 14, 2001

One should not overstate the significance of recent gestures made by President Bush towards Israel and the Jewish People.  At the same time, one should not ignore the unprecedently GLARING GREEN LIGHT to Israel's counter terrorism effort, emanating - SO FAR - from the White House.

What makes President George W. Bush run (with Jerusalem)?

AVOID THE SOUTH VIETNAM SYNDROME!

Ynet Hebrew Edition, December 02, 2001

"Israel has repeated - rather than learnt from - US errors in Vietnam. Israel deludes itself that it would resemble the US in the potential Vietnam-like Mideast syndrome.  In fact, Israel would resemble South Vietnam.  While the PLO has consistently implemented the VietCong tactics of terror-of-attrition, Israel has increasingly responded in a South Vietnam-like manner. I am concerned that if Israel persists in its current counter-terrorist tactics, it may unfortunately end up like South Vietnam!"  (Retired Army General, W. Moore, in a recent conversation in Washington, DC).

POWELL IS A FRIEND OF ISRAEL, BUT...

Ynet Hebrew Edition, October 15, 2001

Secretary of State Colin Powell has recently appointed retired General, Anthony Zinni, as his Wartime Counselor.  Zinni, a former Commander of US forces in the Mideast, has been a proponent of Saddam's containment rather than Saddam's demise.  He has considered terrorism a diplomatic and a law enforcement issue, rather than a military challenge.  He has minimized contacts with Israel and Israel's friends in the US.

Islamic Terrorism Targeting the United States

, September 29, 2001

Islamic terrorism has been an integral component of Mideast politics since the 7th century, 1,300 hundred years BEFORE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE STATE OF ISRAEL.  Three of the initial four Caliphs - Umar, Uthman and Ali - were ousted through political assassinations, and each of the current Moslem leaders in the Mideast is facing the threat of Islamic terrorism, INDEPENDENT OF ISRAEL'S EXISTENCE OR ISRAEL'S POLICIES.

The Boomerang Effect of Restraint

, September 12, 2001

Seventeen USS Cole sailors were murdered in October 2001 by Islamic terrorists in Aden, which has been a key training ground for Palestinian and Bin-Laden terrorists.  But, the US refrained from a military response.  257 persons (twelve of them Americans) were murdered in August 1998 by Islamic terrorists, who blew up the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.  But, the US retaliated by launching cruise missiles on insignificant targets in Sudan and Pakistan. Twenty four Americans were murdered by Islamic terrorists in June 1996 in Khobar, Saudi Arabia (19) and in November 1995 in Riad (5). However, there was no effective US military response.  The 1991 Gulf War was prematurely concluded, and Iraq has persisted in developing nuclear, biological and chemical capabilities.  It has encountered a restrained US bombing, rather than a determined US campaign to uproot the Saddam factor.
